How to Decorate the Basement
The basement is the darkest, and abandoned space of the house due to lack of light and natural ventilation. We can instead transform a cold, humid and unwelcoming corner in a warm and cozy environment. Almost all of us use the basement to store our wines or to accumulate old things, but in reality the basement is an environment that offers great possibilities and uses. So today we see how to decorate the basement.
Being a space with little or no natural light and low roofs, it is not recommended to use dark colors in the basement to paint the walls. We can then decorate it with warm and cozy colors. We can make this place a room to enjoy moments of recreation, play, reading and TV. If we can also provide ventilation, we may also decide to recreate an even more room. Or a home gym, it’s a good alternative to give life to the basement. In this way we will tidy up all the tools bought and abandoned in cupboards or under-scale, in front of a television.
Important is not to give the idea of a closet. In fact it’s one more room in the house. We can put in the middle of the basement, a pool table that will create a cozy environment. Or think about recreating a room where you share watching movies together with friends and family. The basement can act as a projection chamber. We could install a good TV of 60 “, a surround system, insert a comfortable sofa with peninsula so that it welcomes all. In This space it will be easy to accommodate also a music room and a mini bar corner.
A well-decorated basement can be an excellent option to receive guests without disrupting the family atmosphere. It can turn into a play room for children. Especially if we put some shelves there, computers, board games, video games or a ping pong table. Another interesting option is to make it a spa, adding a massage table if the area is not affected by humidity problems. Or we can simply furnish it as a guest room.
In general, the basement is in a rustic way: with concrete paving and walls to be plastered. For the floor we can put on the laminate also cheap. As for the walls, we can cover them with sheets of Styrofoam or alternatively with plasterboard panels. Then we’ll decorate as you like following your own tastes and styles.
Use ceramic or stone floors, not wood. A good thermal insulation keeps the area warm in winter and cool in summer
